Beyoğlu’nda, İstiklal Caddesi’nde gözden ırak bir dükkandan kahve kokusu yayılmaya başlar. Binlerce yıldır insanoğlunun bildiği kahvenin kokusundan farklı bir şeyler vardır bu kahvede. Büyülü kentin sokaklarından gelen bin bir çeşni ile şenlenen, ufacık bir fincanda kahvenin olanca gücünü taşıyan bir kahve çıkar ortaya. Yan dükkan, caddenin karşısı derken; sabahçısı akşamcısı ayrı keşfeder bu büyüyü. Dükkanı saran nefis koku dilden dile anlatılır, diyardan diyara ulaşır. Denir ki, “Burada pişen kahve öyle bir efsunlu kahve ki, öyle yoğun bir köpüğü var ki, üzerinde Mandabatmaz!” İstiklal Caddesi otomobillerden kurtulur. Tramvayını kaybeder, geri kazanır. Sinemalar, pastaneler yıkılır ama Mandabatmaz hep yerindedir, her sabah aynı saatten her akşam aynı saate dek yüzlerce fincan kahve servis edilir küçücük ocaktan dışarıdaki üç-beş masaya. Dünyanın en iyi Türk kahvesi unvanını, hiç konuşulmadan çoktan kazanmıştır.

Bardo Farm is an off-the-grid family farm focusing on permaculture using a balance of livestock, gardening, maple sugaring, foraging, forestry, and more. We raise a broad range of animals and grow a variety of vegetables. Currently, our pigs and chickens rule the farm (the chickens in numbers, the pigs in attitude). But we are always open to introducing new animals and projects. Our gardens are organic. Our animals are free range, woodland- and pasture-raised, cage-free, and people-friendly due to the attention and love we give them. Our goal is to raise happy, healthy animals, and we are always seeking ways to improve our methods and their quality of life. ‘Bardo’ is a Tibetan word meaning ‘between lives’, and it has been the goal of the Bardo Project to provide a place where people can pause, reconsider their values and their strengths, and start moving in a direction that is aligned with those. Bardo is owned and operated by Neil & Emily Smith and Ian & Jody Underwood. The four of us moved to New Hampshire in September 2007. We bought a large property with an off-the-grid house so we could pursue our own “bardo”. We have since started breeding pigs and rabbits and raising calves, turkeys, and chickens.
