Lachesis

Fantom’s aBFT consensus algorithm is called Lachesis. Simply explained, the blockchain’s power source is a consensus process. The Lachesis consensus is a quicker, more scalable, and more secure option in comparison to the Classical and Nakamoto consensus.

The key component of distributed technologies is the consensus process. The consensus protocol makes sure that all network participants reach an understanding: the network as a whole verifies transactions in a completely trustless manner. This is necessary for a decentralized environment where no central body validates transactions.
