The blockchain of the decentralized storage system Filecoin is referred to as a tipset. The Expected Consensus system used by Filecoin, which is election-based and enables many miners to be elected leaders in a round, is based on tipsets.

This indicates that Filecoin (or another storage solution of a such nature) permits several storage miners to produce blocks within a single epoch, increasing network throughput. A blockchain built on tipsets can also increase network security because any node attempting to thwart the formation of valid blocks must compete with the consensus’ preference for heavier chains as each tipset’s weight is inversely proportional to the amount of storage it offers.
