Mimetic Theory

What is Mimetic Theory?

According to mimetic theory, mimetic desire creates natural competition, which finally results in scapegoating. René Girard, a French historian, literary critic, and social science philosopher, is credited with developing the mimetic theory of desire, an explanation of human behavior and society. The term mimesis, which has several connotations in philosophy, is whence the theory gets its name.
