Proof-of-Work (PoW)
What is Proof-of-Work (PoW)
Proof of work (PoW) is a term used to describe a system that discourages the use of computational power for pointless or malicious purposes, such as sending spam emails or launching denial of service attacks. Hal Finney applied the concept of “reusable proof of work” to the security of digital currency in 2004. He did this by employing the SHA-256 hashing algorithm.
