The online black market Silk Road was known for hosting Bitcoin-based money-laundering schemes and illicit drug sales. The FBI eventually took down Silk Road, widely regarded as the first darknet bazaar, in 2013. Ross William Ulbricht, who is currently serving a life term in prison for his involvement in Silk Road, established this market.
